Drivetrain
| Hawaiian Electric has a special drivetrain that maximizes speed and torque for the best performance possible.
The CIM motors are attached to a transmission which reduces the output speed but increases torque. The transmission is a two speed automatic or manual transmission. First gear is used for pushing power and accelerating from a dead stop. Shift to second gear, and Hawaiian Electric is now blazing at over 14 feet per second! The gearbox spins the wheels through a sprocket and chain system. Chains can transmit rotational power over long distances so they are the preferred method for a drivetrain. The chassis uses an idler-less system where we can tension the chain by adjusting the distance between the wheels. |
